Hi Julie,
That's a great question and I'm sure many people out there want to know the same thing. First and foremost if you haven't cleaned up your diet and a healthy lifestyle that is a must. Next, to answer your question of why typical antacids only give temporary relief here's why.
Your stomach acid is mainly composed of hydrochloric acid. This acid helps to digest food, however if too much is produced you experience unpleasant side effects such as heartburn, indigestion, or acid reflux. The problem with antacids is that it's like just putting a band aid on the problem temorarily and then your symptoms come back shortly after and sometimes worse. Antacids neutralize stomach acid and help to suppress the production of. This just tricks your body into producing more acid and it starts the whole visious cycle all over again.

The important thing to remember when trying to treat something is that you want to get to the root of the problem and try and fix it for good. As I mentioned in my article there are some simple things you can try and hopefully you will begin to get relief. Constant use of antacids can disrupt the natural process of digestion by interferring with the bodys acid production. Try some of the natural suggestions and see if that helps.
